Azarenka Drove to Quarterfinals
New York – Victoria Azarenka advanced to a Grand Slam quarterfinal round of the United States Open. Former world number one was qualified after defeating Aleksandra Krunic painstakingly.
In the fourth round match at Arthur Ashe Stadium on Tuesday (09/02/2014) morning local time, Azarenka was forced to three sets by Krunic. He eventually won 4-6, 6-4, 6-4 to qualify through the qualifying round in 2 hours 19 minutes.
Krunic, 21 years old tennis player from Serbia, before making a surprise in the third round to subvert Wimbledon champion Petra Kvitova.
“Aleksandra played unbelievable. He’s got a bright future,” Azarenka said in Reuters.
“It’s never easy against someone you do not know., But he played very well. I’m just trying to remain positive and try to fight and do whatever I can to turn things around,” said the Belarusian this.
Meanwhile, seventh-seeded Eugenie Bouchard stopped in the fourth round. Bouchard defeated by Ekaterina Makarova with a score of 6-7, 4-6. Makarova will face Azarenka in quarterfinal.
